• About Leslie

  • Leslie was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1956. When Leslie was young, she and her family moved to Southern California for several years and then moved to Germany. After the family was transferred back to the States, Leslie grew up in the Detroit suburb of Warren, graduated from Warren Woods High School in the top 10% of her class and then went to the University of Detroit, a Catholic university. While there, she joined the national sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. After graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in Criminal Justice, Leslie stayed on at the University, earning a Master of Business Administration in 1981. And that is when she was bitten by the “Get-To-Texas” bug.
  • Leslie initially moved to Houston and landed a paralegal position with a prestigious law firm. Acting on her long-held desire to become an attorney, Leslie applied for and was accepted at the University of Houston Bates College of Law in 1984. Working full-time during the day and attending law school in the evening, Leslie completed a four year degree program in three years, again graduating with honors.
  • After passing the state bar examination in the fall of 1987, Leslie continued to work at the same law firm. She then had the opportunity to work as a research attorney with the First Court of Appeals for several years, before being offered a position at a premier Houston law firm specializing in family law. It was during this time that she met and married her former husband, Robert Soliz.
  • After their first child, Max, was born, the family decided to move to a smaller town, one that would offer a better quality of life, good family values and a spiritually healthy environment. They chose Victoria. Except for a two-a-half-year absence when Leslie was asked to be the staff attorney for Justice Nelda Rodriguez at the Corpus Christi Court of Appeals, Leslie and her family have lived in Victoria since 1996. It was here that Leslie’s daughter, Devon, was born. Max is now a student at Victoria College and Devon is a junior at Victoria West High School.
  • Leslie served as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Victoria. Later, she worked as a senior associate with a local law firm for seven years before opening her own law office in 2007. The Werner Law Group (formerly the Soliz Law Group) has provided quality legal services to the residents of Victoria and surrounding counties in the areas of probate, general civil litigation, criminal law, business law, family law, and consumer bankruptcy.
  • Leslie is active in her community. She is past president and current board member of the Victoria Northside Rotary Club and a former member of the board of directors for the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent. In addition, she and her family have hosted more than 40 foreign exchange students from Europe, South America, Asia and Australia. She is a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church.
